“inGratitude: A Tribute to Earth, Wind & Fire” pays homage to one of the most prolific musical ensembles in history. Offering an impressive body of familiar EWF tunes, specifically those from the classic years between 1973 – 1985, today’s 10 piece band, led by four exceptional career musicians, evokes a nostalgic listen to a legend that today has moved on to new music and an expansion of a career that still has many more years to come.
“inGratitude: A Tribute to Earth, Wind & Fire” looks to attract two primary audiences: those that experienced those classic years of EWF as teens, college students and young adults, ages now 45 – 65, and those not originally there during those early years but who today are looking for “real” music, ages 30 – 45.
In the spring of 2009, inGratitude began to convene the best musicians in the Baltimore/Washington/Virginia area under the leadership of founder and lead singer Gene McBride. Inspired by The Elements since childhood, and with a strong falsetto of his own reminiscent of the master Phillip Bailey, McBride is excited at the prospect of audiences everywhere sharing the EWF experience. Initially with a smaller ensemble, performances at local night clubs and festivals were enthusiastically received and set the stage for great expectations in the mid-Atlantic area.
With broader plans that involved additional musicians, creative choreography, exciting production elements, and the addition of the original and new members of Pockets (protégé of EWF), inGratitude has set its sights on crowd pleasing performances in major venues–concert halls, outdoor festivals, corporate events, and casino and cruise main stages throughout the country.
inGratitude also offers a special option within its presentation, “The Return of Pockets”. Pockets was an R&B group based in Baltimore, MD in the late 70s. The band moved to Los Angeles as a protégé of E,W & F and was signed to EWF founder Maurice White’s label ARC (via CBS).
Pockets’ albums included the Verdine White produced “Come Go With Us” (1977) that featured the popular title track plus a version of the Stairsteps’ “Pasado”. The Maurice White produced “Take It On Up” (1978) followed and included “Heaven Only Knows” (later recorded by Teddy Pendergrass), “Tell Me Why” and “You And Only You”, written by Ray Parker, Jr. Their final album release was the Verdine White / Robert Wright produced “So Delicious” (1979), containing “How Do You Think It Feels”.
inGratitude members Gary and Greg Grainger are original members of Pockets and are featured in the presentation.
